The Honest Kitchen
A meal made with love nourishes the mind and body. Lucy Postins had been feeding her Rhodesian Ridgeback a homemade raw diet. She was amazed at the results. His skin and coat looked incredible and his ear infections cleared up, but feeding a raw diet can be time consuming and messy.
She wanted a way to continue to feed him minimally-processed, whole foods that were easier to prepare. Result: dehydration. Lucy realized she could remove the moisture from real foods and leave all the natural color and nutrition in place. She created The Honest Kitchen® in her very own kitchen in 2002 and believes making great food is both a science and an art.
The dehydration process preserves the natural nutrients in whole foods much better than baking, canning, or extrusion. Fresh fruits and veggies are harvested, washed, and diced before warm air is used to gently ‘blow away’ the moisture. Meats, eggs, fish, and greens are gently steamed to reduce pathogens before the moisture is carefully evaporated through dehydration. Potatoes and grains are flash-heated to help break down the cellulose and aid in digestion.
The Honest Kitchen offers dehydrated foods, treats, and fish skin chew treats for dogs and cats.
